The focus of attention at this year’s 39th Slovenian Music Days is on composers’ societies. In most European countries, compos ers’ societies have gone significantly beyond their primary role of meeting professional needs and, in certain periods of their activity, placed themselves among the key (co-)shapers of wider national musical life, cultural policy and national musi cal identity. A growing international profile, thanks to the wide ranging activities of its members and its own diverse activities in numerous fields, can also be observed in the case of the Society of Slovene Composers (DSS), which will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of its founding at the end of 2025.
