Comic strip opera in the form of a musical – Three Dogs draws inspiration from the comic strip as an increasingly recognized artistic platform. The dogs Fili, Bibi, and Choco, who inspired the characters in the opera, are real, but the comic medium introduces other symbolic and technological elements: the two-dimensionality of the image, the black-and-white palette of the urban habitat, the genre-enhanced drama of the narrative, direct address in short episodic scenes, and visual-verbal descriptions of sound…
Three Dogs, with their ordinary canine problems, are caught in a shallow world where they search for depth and color (translated into dog language – food, safety, and love). Their stories serve as a meaningful reflection of both human and childhood emotions amid the chaos of the modern world.
Dog wisdoms… about life as an adventure; about friendship, without which one cannot get through a stormy night; about freedom and comfort, pedigree… and of course, about sausage.
A dog’s story is always epic – and this one is likely just the first in a series of many adventures that typically befall an honest dog, let alone three.
