More information
Ensemble Dissonance brings together acclaimed Ljubljana musicians distinguished by a shared commitment to the development of chamber music and its performance at the highest artistic level. The ensemble commissions works by Slovene composers, gives young musicians the opportunity to perform alongside more experienced colleagues and opens up a space for creative encounters. On this occasion they are joined by Spanish conductor Miguel Ángel Navarro, a regular guest of prestigious chamber ensembles such as London Covent Garden Soloists, and trumpeter Vicente Campos, professor and director at the Castellón Superior Music Conservatory Salvador Seguí. Together they will present a distinctively Mediterranean programme: Boccherini’s Quintet for Strings No. 6 brings the nighttime sound of Madrid; the Intermezzo from Enrique Granados's opera Goyescas conjures up the world of Goya’s paintings; and Mar i Bel by Ferrer Ferran combines the intimacy of a personal dedication with the musical tradition of Valencia. The second part of the evening juxtaposes a violin concerto by the baroque master Giuseppe Tartini, a native of Piran in present-day Slovenia, with the cycle Vistes al mar by the Catalan composer Eduard Toldrà, which paints an aural picture of the sea inspired by the poetry of Joan Maragall. The concert thus offers works of different periods and styles, joined together to form a common Mediterranean story.
