Free spirited grandma Sara B. escapes from a retirement home placed by her daughter. While hitchhiking she meets David, a saxophonist in an old Mercedes. They drive to the coast but David steals her jewelry and meets singer Laura at a jazz club. Sara finds him but he runs away with Laura. Laura convinces David to return the jewelry. At a casino Sara wins a large amount of money but later collapses due to diabetes. She recovers in the hospital and the trio continues their adventures despite her daughter's disapproval.
