About the event

Musical Otrok miru - Peace Child

The musical Peace Child is part of the international cultural initiative SIT DOWN, which offers young people a space to express their visions, opinions and demands for the future through art. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations. SIT DOWN combines art and diplomacy and, in times of global tensions, opens a space for dialogue, cooperation and intergenerational trust.

The musical will bring together around 200 young artists from Slovenia and beyond its borders. In a fictional world divided by conflict, children use courage and creativity to connect communities and encourage reconciliation. This year, the symphony orchestra will also be joined by choir singers, soloists and actors. Together, they will create a powerful musical and theatrical spectacle, a sincere story with a vision of peace, coexistence and a bright future through the eyes of children and young people. The event with exciting songs and convincing dialogues is at the same time entertainment, a great socializing for audiences of all ages and an encouragement to solidarity.

More information

The musical Child of Peace is being created as the central project of the Summer Orchestra Camp of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra – POK, which has been opening its doors to young musicians with a desire to experience playing together for six years. For many participants, this is also the first opportunity to play in a real symphony orchestra.

This year, the camp is expanding, and for the first time, choir singers are joining the orchestra in a large vocal-instrumental production. The creative core of the camp is a 10-day residency at Brdo pri Kranju, where young participants live, practice, create and grow together, both as artists and as citizens of the world.

A special feature of this year's program is thematic education, which will present the key challenges of today to the participants through the eyes of children and youth, such as peace, solidarity, sustainability and cooperation between generations.

The Slovenian Youth Orchestra has been using music as a driving force for change for many years. From the Music for the Future project, which supported displaced Ukrainian musicians, to concerts at major global events such as COP26, the orchestra has proven that music can do more than just inspire - it can move people to action.

The SIT DOWN initiative is held under the honorary patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon.
