Goran Bojčevski & Balkan Nuevo

Macedonia-born clarinettist Goran Bojčevski began his professional musical career at the Ljubljana Academy of Music and completed the master’s programme in clarinet at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, studying with renowned teacher Alois Brandhofer. In 2018 he was awarded the Bronze Coat of Arms of Celje in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of culture. He is also a composer and the originator of the musical style known as Balkan Nuevo, which combines the music of the Balkans with elements of classical music and jazz. He will be joined at the 73rd Ljubljana Festival by a group of promising young musicians, with a programme consisting of ethno-jazz arrangements of folk songs and jazz standards and his own original compositions. Andraž Frece studied the accordion at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, the Lucerne School of Music and the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts. He performs regularly at European music festivals and collaborates with ensembles such as Klangforum Wien and the Austrian New Music Ensemble (oenm). Since graduating in guitar from the Ljubljana Academy of Music, Matic Dolenc has dedicated himself to world music and arranging. He collaborates regularly with Bojčevski and also works with other ensembles. Jan Sever is one of the more prominent pianists of his generation in Slovenia and regularly appears at festivals at home and abroad. His repertoire covers a wide range of classical music and other genres, in particular tango. Jaka Krušič is a member of several ensembles and performs regularly with them at home and abroad. He is currently completing jazz double bass studies at the Gustav Mahler Private University of Music in Klagenfurt and also works as a music teacher. Having completed a master’s degree in classical percussion, Gregor Horvat today collaborates regularly with musicians such as Uroš Perić, Maja Keuc, Omar Naber and the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
