The first Thursday evening in August will be dedicated to a stylistically diverse repertoire spanning several periods. The programme will include works by Italian Romantic composer and double bass virtuoso Giovanni Bottesini, Italian opera innovator Gioacchino Rossini, French composer and Les Six member Francis Poulenc, American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, Argentinian tango revolutionary Astor Piazzolla, American contemporary composer David Anderson, twentieth- century Hungarian composer Vilmos Montag, Russian composer of German and Polish descent Reinhold Glière, and 20th-century American composer Morton Gould. Double bassist Rick Stotijn is a highly versatile musician trained in Amsterdam who now teaches at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. Clarinettist François Benda studied in Graz and Geneva and is today a professor at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin and the Basel Academy of Music. Pianist Elina Gotsouliak trained in Riga and Basel and is equally at home on the harpsichord. Pianist Balint Zsuzsa, who studied in Essen and Berlin, teaches at the UdK in Berlin.
