More information
Guitar fans will certainly remember the performances by great guitarists from the worlds of jazz, blues, rock and flamenco that have featured on the programme of the Ljubljana Festival over the last 30 years: John Scofield, Hiram Bullock, Dean Brown, John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucía… This year we will be adding another name to the list, that of Robben Ford, known for his work with greats such as Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Bob Dylan and a fixture on the list of the greatest guitar players of the last 50 years – ever since he came on the scene. This is the second opportunity to hear him in Slovenia, following his participation in the inaugural series of concerts at the newly reopened Kino Šiška in 2009.
Robben Ford’s appearance at this year’s 73rd edition of the Ljubljana Festival is one of a limited number of exclusive European performances with the quartet he has formed with Chris Minh Doky, one of Europe’s most acclaimed bassists, who has worked with many of the greats from the history of jazz, including Michael Brecker, the Brecker Brothers, David Sanborn, Trilok Gurtu, John Abercrombie and Mike Stern. The keyboard player is Ricky Peterson, best known for his 20-year association with saxophone legend David Sanborn and for having produced, arranged and played keyboards for Prince on and off for many years.
He has also worked with George Benson, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Sérgio Mendes, Chaka Khan, Sting, Stevie Nicks, and many others. Keith Carlock is a top drummer (Steely Dan, Sting, Toto, Larry Carlton, Bootsy Collins, Grover Washington Jr, etc.) with a unique style that seamlessly blends genres – from jazz, rock, pop and blues to funk and soul.
You’ve heard Hendrix, Guy, Clapton, Beck, Santana… now listen to Robben Ford and the jazz-inspired communication of this superb line-up at their only concert in this part of Europe.

“I don’t find a lot of people actually saying things through music any longer. They are not trying to say anything with their music, they just want to make money with it. I think it’s important to actually say something real, something meaningful, rather than just write some trash and try to sell it.” – Robben Ford
