More information
Over the course of several decades, the celebrated flamenco of Andalusia was brought to concert stages in Slovenia in a variety of musical contexts by a true virtuoso: Paco de Lucía, one of the greatest guitarists in the history of music and a leading proponent of the new flamenco style and Latin jazz fusion. His last appearance in Slovenia was at the 52nd Ljubljana Festival in 2004. Vicente Amigo, who first came to Slovenia in 1999 at the invitation of Brane Rončel and appeared on the television show Izza odra, is considered the heir to Paco’s throne. Paco worked with John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Larry Coryell and Chick Corea. The list of musicians Vicente has worked with also includes John McLaughlin, along with names such as Marcus Miller, Sting, Eliane Elias, Milton Nascimento, Dave Weckl and Tom Kennedy. He has won numerous international awards as a guitarist and composer. This will be his first appearance this year with his regular band, joined for the occasion by internationally acclaimed brothers Maka and José Ibáñez (aka Makarines), whose fresh, contemporary and richly layered vocal approach and soulstirring handclapping will further elevate the experience. It promises to be a hot night at Križanke, not only because of the summer temperatures!
“I love Vicente Amigo. Everything about what he does, his touch, his sound, his ideas, all knock me out. One of my real favourites. That song “Querido Metheny” on his album Vivencias Imaginadas was one of the best compliments I have ever received.” – PAT METHENY
