Sounds of creation – a breakthrough beyond classical boundaries

Inspired by Händel's magnificent oratorios, which he heard during his visits to London, Joseph Haydn decided to write an oratorio of his own. The libretto of The Creation, written by Baron Gottfried van Swieten, is based on the Book of Genesis, which tells the story of the creation of the world in seven days. For Haydn, writing the oratorio was a profound religious experience. He told later biographers that during its composition he prayed to God every day to give him the strength to complete the work. The oratorio, which captivated audiences from its very first performance, is considered to be one of the first universal works, intended.

La Fura’s uses a blend of techniques and disciplines that actively encourages audience participation and the adaptation of stage work to the architectural characteristics of the spaces in which each performance takes place.
The Creation is a special work in that it is the first oratorio to be written and published in bilingual form (English and German).
Carlus Padrissa is also the “captain” of one of La Fura’s most ambitious projects: the Naumon, a 60-metre-long, 1,100-tonne ship converted into a floating stage that has logged more than 40,000 miles from the Atlantic Ocean via the Mediterranean all the way to the China Seas.
