More about the event

A voice that tells a story

On a stage where silence matters as much as music, one of the most recognizable voices in the country’s musical history returns. Tomaž Domicelj’s concert is more than just an evening of songs; it is a personal story. Songs known for decades will sound more intimate and direct. It is a rare chance to experience a creator who uses guitar, words, and humor to create unforgettable moments.

More information

Tomaž Domicelj returns to Križanke after an interval of two years. Does the ambiguous title of this boutique musical presentation, The Last Acoustic, which will mark the artist’s eighth visit to Križanke’s magical Devil’s Courtyard, signify a farewell to Domicelj’s exclusively acoustic concerts, or has he decided, at the age of 77, to bring down the curtain on his 60-year professional career? The composer, guitarist, singer, harmonica player, Slavicist and translator of rock biographies Tomaž Domicelj first appeared on the musical map with the group Helioni, formed while he was still at school. In 1970, now enrolled at university as a student of English and Slovene, following a short period living in Britain, he began appearing at festivals as a singer-songwriter. He also began working in radio and television and released a number of singles. His groundbreaking album Tomaž v živo (Tomaž Live), released in 1977, was followed by numerous awards and a dozen other collections of original songs. A double album, Jubilej, was released in 2023 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Ljubljana Festival. Consisting of 39 selected repertoire-spanning concert performances, and with a running time of two and a half hours, this exclusive Ljubljana Festival and RTV Slovenia co-production presents musical and lyrical pearls from Domicelj’s stage performances. Mention should also go to the top musical guests who accompany these performances.
An important role will be played in this year’s The Last Acoustic concert by the well-known clarinettist and saxophonist Marjan Farič, whom Domicelj first got to know decades ago when Farič was a member of the Murska Sobota rock group Zasilni Izhod (Emergency Exit). Tomaž Domicelj is living proof that there are always plenty of exits and entrances available, provided you sincerely believe in what you are doing – and presenting to the widest possible audience.
