Brazil, 1977. Marcelo, a technology specialist on the run from his own past, returns to Recife amid the frenzy of Carnival in hopes of reconnecting with his son. The city he remembers from his youth is now saturated with surveillance, fear, and quiet glances that follow him at every step. He soon realizes that Recife is not a refuge but a trap where repression intertwines with the long-buried truth he has been trying to escape.

The film will be screened with Slovenian subtitles.

The Secret Agent was presented at numerous international festivals, including Cannes, Chicago, Stockholm, Telluride, New York, Toronto, Busan, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, San Sebastián, London, Vienna, LIFFe and Rotterdam, and received several awards, including Best Actor, Best Director and the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes, Best Actor in Chicago and Best Cinematography in Stockholm. It also earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Drama, Best Actor in a Drama and Best Foreign Language Film, as well as a place on the shortlist for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.

Brazil, 1977. Marcelo, a technology specialist in his early forties, is on the run from his past and from a country shaken by repression, surveillance, and fear. Hoping to reconnect with his son, he travels to Recife, the city of his childhood, during Carnival. But the moment he arrives, he senses that everything has changed: the streets are filled with festive chaos yet overshadowed by military presence, quiet stares, and the feeling that every step is being watched.

Marcelo tries to remain unnoticed, but his past catches up with him faster than expected. Neighbors who seem friendly hide their own fears and secrets. The city that was meant to be a refuge becomes a maze of suspicion, surveillance, and danger. As Carnival reaches its peak, Marcelo realizes he is fighting not only for a chance to see his son but also for his own survival and the truth about who is really hunting him.
