About the event
Workshops for children
Children will spend the week exploring different creative approaches, from designing three‑dimensional insects to making relief portraits. They will work with a variety of recycled materials, colours and textures, developing imagination and a joy for experimentation. They will also try their hand at puppet‑making and learn a printing technique using tetrapaks. We will conclude the week with an exhibition showcasing the richness of their creativity in the unique setting of Plečnik’s Križanke.

COLOURFUL BUGS
Day 1: Monday, 6. 7 2026
On the first day, we will take a look at a book about insects, which will serve as inspiration for the children’s creative work. Based on the examples they have seen, the children will create their own three-dimensional insects from cardboard and enrich them with interesting textures by layering different materials. During the activity, we will encourage imagination and exploration, while also using and combining a variety of recycled materials.
ANIMAL PORTRAITS
Day 2: Tuesday, 7. 7 2026
On the second day, we will create unique portraits on shaped canvases. First, we will use various materials to form relief images, which we will then paint with acrylics. The finished portraits will be fitted with cardboard frames and string, so that the artworks will be ready for hanging on the wall.
DOLLS MADE FROM PAPER ROLLS
Day 3: Wednesday, 8. 7 2026
On the third day, we will explore how we can use simple, waste materials to create real puppets. Using toilet paper rolls, paper, bottle caps, wooden sticks, paint, yarn and imagination, we will create unique puppets – animals, fairy-tale creatures, or characters of our own invention. Finally, we will bring the puppets to life and play with them in short, improvised scenes.
TETRAGRAPHY
Day 4: Thursday, 9. 7 2026
On the fourth day, we will learn about an interesting printmaking technique in which waste carton packaging is used as the printing matrix. We will create a printing plate by cutting, embossing and drawing on the inner layer of the carton packaging, which we will then use to produce unique printed motifs.
EXHIBITION
Day 5: Friday, 10. 7 2026
On the final day of the creative week, we will invite parents, relatives, friends, and all art enthusiasts to an exhibition of works created throughout the week. The presented artworks will reflect children’s creativity and the inspiration drawn from creating in the unique setting of Plečnik’s Križanke.
