During the Romantic era, music often found new life beyond the opera stage, as composers and performers transformed familiar melodies into brilliant fantasies and variations. The programme presented by Italian musicians Salvatore Vella and Rosario Randazzo reveals the refined spirit of the nineteenth century, a time when every note offered space for virtuosity and heartfelt emotion. Vella, one of Italy’s leading flutists, and Randazzo, an accomplished pianist and collaborator, will create an evening filled with elegance and warmth.

The music of Vincenzo Bellini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Georges Bizet and others often moved from the opera stage to the salon, where audiences admired the performers’ technical mastery and expressive imagination. The selected works by Joachim Andersen, Giulio Briccialdi, Paul-Agricole Génin, Jules Demersseman and François Borne rank among the finest examples of this Romantic tradition, where virtuosity and lyricism intertwine. This rich heritage will be presented by Salvatore Vella and Rosario Randazzo, both professors at the Conservatorio Vincenzo Bellini in Catania. Flautist Vella has been principal flute of the Orchestra del Teatro Massimo Bellini since 1989 and has performed with leading Italian orchestras, including the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, under renowned conductors such as Myung-Whun Chung and Riccardo Muti. Randazzo, pianist and accompanist, specialises in vocal and chamber music. He has performed in many European cities and collaborated with distinguished soloists, among them flautists Silvia Careddu, Paolo Taballione and Mario Caroli, trumpeters Roberto Rossi and Marco Toro, and harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet of the Berlin Philharmonic.
