HOT TICKETS, -40% for tonights concert: Messiah, Oratorio – »the most wonderful musical work we have ever heard«
You are kindly invited to see the second event of 2010 Festival Ljubljana – Messiah, Oratorio, composed by Georg Friedrich Händel. The Oratorio in three parts will be performed by the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival Orchestra and Choir from Lübeck on 7 July at 8 p.m. at the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall; it will be conducted by Rolf Beck, with soloists Jana Mamonova, Sophie Harmsen, Benjamin Bruns and Wiard Witholt. The success of the premiere performance of the oratorio Messiah – on 13 April 1742 – was one of the greatest in the history of music. Indeed, the Messiah was performed more than seventy times in the composer’s own lifetime! On the premiere performance of the oratorio, even the Dublin Daily stated “Even specialists have acknowledged the Messiah as the most wonderful musical work they have ever heard”. We hope you too will find it enchanting.
