The Fountain of Vow
From 26th till 14th March from 10 am till 6 pm we invite you to an exhibition of Mrs Nora de Saint Pičman - The Fountain of Vow. Free entry.
From the ethical and moral point of view, the exhibition emphasises the questions of vow, love, devotion and sacrifice in man-woman and parent-child relationship, as well as the relation between life and death.
The central part of the installation is dedicated to Berneker (Hommage à Berneker), the pioneer of the modern Slovenian sculpture, using a technique of digital print on mirrors that enables the illusion of space. Closed eyes and interlaced hands of a silent queen above the sculpture of the confessor Janez Nepomuk thrown to the octopus; asleep face of a dying mother, nursing her child, in the interlaced Family Trinity in the Drama sculpture are consequently continuing as moving pictures in the video of Saint Denis Basilique (instead of in the frozen two-dimensional shape of mirror prints) –like a walk around lying sculptures of French kings/gisants/, and particularly in the expressive, realistic and idealized mannerist style sculpture of Henry II and Catherine de Medici, the work of the great sculptor from the end of 16th century, Germain Pilon. A dreamy gaze, introverted and full of captivated innocence, can also be seen in photos of sleeping children; in this case »the fountain of vow« is the childhood, the spring, the source of life, while the vow is the stream of unconditional parental love.
The sonorous part of this installation consists of a Gregorian coral and recordings of my own poetical texts, accompanied with the musical improvisation on the piano or synthesizer; the opening performance includes the said presentation of poetic texts.
Nora de Saint Picman
"Characteristic, perplexed with the symbolism of primal, erotic life force, the artistic world of Nora de Saint Picman, time and time again sunken into a dense meshwork of references of multicultural spiritual horizon, functioning as the perception of the multilayered world truth, has, this time, focused itself on the artistic meditation about the artistic fate of the sculptor Fran Berneker, a pioneer of contemporary Slovenian statuary art, born amidst the forests of Pohorje, only a stone`s throw away from the location of this years artistic encounters. Applying an authentic technical solution with the photographic image including the almost forgotten fountain by Janez Nepomuk in Kranj, she once more exposed the repetitive motif of Eros and sacrifice, intimately – as a bond between both locations where she spends most of her time."
