Great opera star on the stage of the Ljubljana summer festival
Following guest appearances by international opera stars, including Josè Carreras, Josè Cura and Marcelo Alvares to name just the tenors, this summer, at the invitation of the Ljubljana Festival, the world renowned singer Ramón Vargas will appear in Ljubljana. Both the specialist audience and lovers of opera firmly believe that this Mexican tenor represents the continuation of the tradition of the great tenors of the 20th century (Carreras, Pavarotti, Domingo), demonstrating that golden tenor voices are not a thing of the past. Ramón Vargas appears throughout the world. In the first two months of this year alone he has enjoyed standing ovations and rave reviews in the role of Rudolf in Puccini’s La Boheme at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as at the Vienna State Opera. Tickets for the performance of Puccini’s opera in Vienna were sold out as early as December of last year. The sell-out performance of La Boheme at the Vienna State Opera, with the star cast of Krassimira Stoyanova and Ramón Vargas, was recently attended by the head of the Ljubljana Festival Programme Office, Veronika Brvar. In conversation after the performance, the celebrated tenor confided in her that he was very much looking forward to his first performance in Ljubljana. The concert will be on 14 July in the Gallus Hall of the Cankarjev Dom Cultural Centre. The Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Emanuelle Villaume, with whom the tenor Ramón Vargas has already appeared on several occasions.
