Highlights of the 60th summer festival

Dear Ljubljana Festival fans, we are happy to give you a sneak peek at the programme we have prepared to pamper you with for the 60th anniversary of the summer festival. It will open on 20 June in Cankarjev dom, with a grand concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the renowned Sir Simon Rattle. Other highlights include the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra with Yuri Temirkanov, opera arias with Inva Mula, soprano, Leo Nucci, baritone, and Ivan Repušić, conductor, the concert of the Chamber Music Orchestra of the Vienna Concerto Society and the Chamber Orchestra of Perugia, the concert of the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra of Saint Petersburg, conducted by Valery Gergiev, the concert by Vinko Globokar and three concerts by the Maribor International Orchestra 2012, which will also organize master courses. The audience's favourite – Béjart Ballet of Lausanne – are also returning to the stage of Festival Ljubljana, this time with Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring) by Igor Stravinsky. And after their hit of the past season – Hair, Bronowski Production has prepared another cult musical for Ljubljana: Jesus Christ Superstar. Theatre lovers will enjoy Gospoda Glembajevi (The Glembays) by Miroslav Krleža, with Boris Cavazza in the role of Naci Glembaj. Tomaž Pandur worked on the classical Greek tragedy – Medea, and the Ulysses Theatre by Rade Šerbedžija will stage Odysseus. You will also be able to enjoy the traditional concert by Vlado Kreslin, and we will let RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and the best vocalists of Slovenia to siege Kongresni trg on a summer night. Moreover, this year's Festival Ljubljana will host Music masters on air (MUSMA) and numerous activities. More

Spanish Young Virtuosi at Križanke

05.01.2012 / Spanish saxophonist Juan Pedro Luna Agudo (1992) was the recipient of the first prize at this year’s 6th International Saxophone Competition in Nova Gorica, which is why the Ljubljana Festival has invited him to appear within the framework of the international music cycle Young Virtuosi. Together with Spanish pianist Juan Escalera Peña he will present well known and less established works by Spanish composers to the Slovene audience, and he has also selected a composition by the young Slovene composer Blaž Pucihar.   • The sound of accordion to conclude the Young Virtuosi cycle

    05.01.2012 / International music cycle Young Virtuosi 2011/2012 will conclude with accordion virtuoso Neža Torkar, a third year student at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar. In addition to receiving first prize in this year’s Slovene state competition for young musicians she is also the recipient of numerous other prizes and awards both at home and abroad. She has furthered her knowledge of the accordion with recognised accordion players such as James Crabb, Primož Parovel, Luka Juhart, Gertie Bruin and Janne Rättyä.   • No Borders Orchestra

    13.12.2011 / Ljubljana Festival is part of the project No Borders Orchestra, which will initiate the esteblishment of a symphonic orchestra that would gather the best musicians from the ex Yugoslavia territory. The audition took place also in Ljubljana - on December 8th in Knight's Hall, Križanke. The winners will be in known January 2012 and the new orchestra will also perform at Ljubljana Festival 2012. No Border Orchestra presents a cross border project with cultural impacts based on universal human values and focused on further progress of social, environmental and cultural awareness.   • Guitar sound in New Year

    08.12.2011 / On 4th January at 7.30 pm the 5th concert of Young Virtuosi took place in Knight's hall in Križanke. The audience was trilled by two guitar masters: Nejc Kuhar and Mak Grgić alias Prokofiev guitar duo. news_more
