Besides the impression of the past, which surrounds all visitors at the Ljubljana Castle, it is also becoming an important cultural centre of Ljubljana. It is an important venue for exhibitions, theatre plays, concerts etc...
- Palatium
Origin of the word palatium (Latin for mansion) proves that this was once a stately home where the governor of the province held formal receptions and performed other duties of this office. - Estate hall
This is one of representational halls. The remains in this hall show us the process of castle's construction. There are two separate halls. - Courtyard
In the 17th century, it served as a rallying point for the army of the provincial aristocracy. - The White Hall and the Blue Hall
White and Blue Halls together with the foyer, extend across the entire second floor of the building. - The Pentagonal Tower
In the 15th century this tower was the main entrance to the Inner Ward; it also served for defence of the Castle against attacks from the south. - St. Jurij chapel
The Chapel is one of the oldest parts of the Castle. By the order of Cesar's document from 1489 it was dedicated to St. George, the patron saint of Ljubljana.. - Rock hall
As archeological excavations show it was only in the 16th and 17th century that first hall was erected in this part of the castle, between the Archer's Tower and the Pentagonal Tower. - Erasmus Tower
The tower was named after the robber baron Erasmus Predjamski. It served as a noble prison. - Hribar's Hall
The hall was named after famous Ljubljana mayor Ivan Hribar. He recived the title honorary citizen of the City Ljubljana for constructing city waterworks. - Viewing Tower
The Tower was fire-guard's residence; canon fire meant that there was fire in the city. - Pipers' Tower
The original entrance was located at the northern side of the castle of the provincial prince. The town pipers trumpeted with three trombones and one cornet from the wooden gallery around the tower at 11 a.m. every day. - Archers' Tower
The foundations of this tower were set in the 15th century. There was a wall connecting the tower to the Civic Fortress Šance
