In 2010, the Slovene State Competition for Young Musicians (TEMSIG) discovered a series of excellent young singers. It is therefore no coincidence that our concert cycle with young musicians concludes with an evening of song. All of the selected singers study at the Ljubljana Academy of Music in the class of Pia Brodnik, and it is under her guidance that this evening’s programme of lieder by the celebrated composer couples Clara and Robert Schumann, and Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn has come about. The programme will be enriched by songs by Slovene composers Breda Šček and Rado Simoniti. The well rounded evening of song will be prepared by soprano Nina Fras, a second year student of solo singing with a number of awards (a bronze shield at this year’s TEMSIG) and numerous resounding appearances already behind her, including an outstanding recital of lieder by Hugo Wolf; tenor Martin Sušnik, the recipient of a golden award and first prize at this year’s state competition and a singer with stage experience at the Ljubljana Opera; and baritone Andrej Makor, the winner of a silver shield at the state competition and a special prize for young talented musicians, as well as a golden award at the regional singing competition.
