Exploring Time, spatial video installation
Artists: Saška Aleksandra Gruden in Sabe Skaberne Co-author: Jože Slaček
"Exploring Time" is a multimedia
, ambient project put together by Saba Skaberne and Saška Gruden specifically for the pentagonal tower at Ljubljana Castle. The installation is an artistic attempt to intervene in the concept of time. It is an attempt to emphasise time's cyclical nature, but at the same time its derailment and the subversion of our usual perceptions (video). It employs the illusion of a time capsule (a mobile object) which, if only for moment, can take us away from the quotidian, while at the same time making us aware of the nature and laws of time. The content of the video element focuses on the phenomenon of the event as a constituent element of time, through which, because of the sequence of individual events, we can actually perceive time in reality. The light-mobile, spatial and video project "Exploring time" could thus for some be the story of the perpetual theme of the circle of life, for others a Disneyesque time vessel or even time capsule. It is up to the viewer on what level he or she is prepared to accept it: on a pseudo-scientific or physical level, a substantive-personal and poetic-symbolic level, or simply on a visual one. The kaleidoscope-like atmosphere of the castle tower is a multi-layered artistic situation whose basic aim is above all to awaken in the viewer questions, a sense of amazement and the desire to research – or even childish curiosity regarding – this exceptional phenomenon, time.
