The staging of the musical Marathon Runners Running the Final Lap by Dušan Kovačič is important for the Terazije Theatre for various reasons. The musical was an extremely demanding project, as on stage it combines actors, dancers, a choir and, of course, an orchestra. With the ‘translation’ of Marathon Runners into a musical the Terazije Theatre confirms its reputation as the initiator and leading creator of the genuine Serbian musical. The musical has come to life in the structure of musical form, in the dramatic conception of the work of Dušan Kovačič, and not least in the screenplay for a film with the same title, all of which, along with the songs of Maja Pelević, form a whole. The musical offered an opportunity to three composers. They used this opportunity to make one of Serbia’s best known families, the Topalovič family, sing, and thanks to choreographer Mojca Horvat the Topalovič family also dances. The creators of the performance are convinced that in the Marathon Runners they succeed in bringing the hidden value of the musical to its full expression. In the end, what is most important is that the success of the musical Marathon Runners Running the Final Lap is a turning point that foretells the beginning of a new competition for future generations of young artists in creating domestic musicals.

The performance is sung in Serbian with Slovenian and English subtitles.
