Until now, Agnes Jama (1911–1993) has been a completely unknown musician to the Slovenian audience. An acquaintance with her personality is particularly interesting for the Slovenian cultural sphere not only due to her close family connection with the celebrated impressionist Matija Jama, but also because of her own creative work as a composer. Although modest in scope, her opus is nonetheless worthy of our attention for the role and conception of the piano works alone, which bear witness to Agnes Jama’s skill as a pianist drawn to reflection both on the compositional questions of contemporary European music and on the purely technical side of piano performance.
