The chamber ensemble Gaudeamus will perform works by the great Slovenian masters of the 20th century, whose creative work was marked primarily by instrumental compositions. The musical language of Dane Škerl, which is very purified in terms of instrumentation, is determined by a technique of clearly linearly stratified and thematically oriented melodic lines. In terms of chamber works, the instrumental opus of Uroš Krek is rich in compositions for strings. Although his sonic world is oriented towards clarity and serene neoclassicism, the composer also accepted the more recent compositional solutions of his era. As one of the last most successful and most incisive pupils of Osterc, Primož Ramovš devoted himself primarily to instrumental music. His Sonatina, originally written for horn and piano, was composed at the end of the 1950s, at a time when he was gradually turning away from the neoclassical and neo-baroque models of European classics and penetrating the areas of bitonality, atonality and dodecaphony. In his creative work, Škerjanc’s pupil Vilko Ukmar initially drew from late romanticism, but in his further compositional searching he also entered the areas of expressionism and neoclassicism, while always attempting to remain broadly comprehensible with his works.
In addition to works by the great Slovenian masters we will also hear compositions by Petra Stanovnik and Marko Stanjko, students of the composition class of Uroš Rojko.
